Ria Formosa ist ein Naturschutzgebiet, das sich von der Stadt Faro (Ilha de Faro) nach Osten ca.60 km zur spanischen Grenze bis Cacela Velha erstreckt. Es umfasst eine Fläche von etwa 18.000 Hektar.
